What a monumental weekend in the history of Dorchester Rugby Football Club! After a year’s worth of blood, sweat, tears and laughter, the Rugbyathon event happened in true style this weekend. We achieved 24 hours of non-stop rugby action seeing every team represented, ranging from U7s to U16s, Colts, Girls, Ladies, Exhibition and past sides, to our 3 senior men’s teams. The event attracted huge support from the local community and the partner charities as well as a bit of rugby royalty.
Friday night was a night of awesome live music and top class cider and sausages, celebrating some of the best of what is on our doorstep. Hats off to those players, parents and supporters who maintained the effort throughout the night into the wee hours of the morning including the 24 hour kitchen.
All of this set the scene for Saturday’s fun which included a whole host of family activities and, of course, the much anticipated World Record Attempt. We are currently awaiting verification from Guinness who are considering the evidence submitted that suggests we comfortably smashed the world record with approximately 520 participants.
We ended Saturday with a charity ball held at the County Show Ground where the club hosted 230 guests for a fantastic evening.
It is with regret that we learn that offence has been caused by an unofficial press release earlier this week. There will be an official club article being published in the next couple of days.
We, the Rugbyathon Committee, would like to express our sincere and wholehearted thanks to all of our hundreds of generous sponsors and donors, and to the many many people who gave up their time and sleep and put in a huge effort to help make this an amazing weekend.
We will, of course, let you know as soon as possible whether the world record has been ratified by Guinness and we plan to announce an initial figure of monies raised early next week.
It’s not too late to donate via JustGiving by visiting https://www.justgiving.com/Dorchester-rfc/ or you can contact Sherry Foot directly by email on treasurer@dorchester-rfc.co.uk to donate in other ways. There will also be some great photos on Photobox which will be available to purchase at very reasonable rates and money from this will be added to the final figure. We will let you know as soon as these are all ready.
